Transport of submarine cable from Japan to Northern Ireland

Industrial carrier ABB (Asia Break Bulk, Singapore) and CPC Asia, both part of COLI Group have  completed the ocean transport of 17 km of submarine cables from Hitachi to Belfast.

In Japan, the parcels were loaded on board of our own multi-purpose vessel ABB Vanessa. The cargo consisted of 2 cable carousels (each 17,50m dia x 4,50m height) of in total 1,327 MT. After our colleagues of CPC Asia had completed their job, ABB Singapore arranged for the smooth and quick transit (via the Panama canal and the Atlantic Ocean) to the cargo’s destination port in Northern Ireland. There, the carousels were safely discharged and handed over the client.

This cargo was highly time-sensitive. Therefore our team chose to sail via Panama instead of the Cape. This saved valuable time, but, of course, required very strict planning to ensure that the vessel would get the right transit slot in the Panama Canal.

All in all we are proud of our colleagues at ABB and CPC who delivered another project to the full satisfaction of our client.

COLI seamlessly delivered 8 sets of power transformers and auxiliaries to Poland in one single shipment.

With more than 5 months of comprehensive logistics planning and engineering studies, COLI seamlessly delivered 8 sets of power transformers and auxiliaries to Gydnia, Poland in one single shipment.
This transport included four power transformers, each with a unit weight of 354 Mtons, and four shunt reactors with a unit weight of 135 Mtons each. The total project consisted of over +3250 Frt.

Logistics challenge

The initial challenge was related to the storage area constraint at the manufacturer’s factory. To overcome this issue, COLI’s Istanbul team provided a designated warehouse solution with suitable ground bearing capacity and route feasibility in order to ensure safe intermediate deliveries from the factory.

The second challenge was getting the cargoes from the warehouse to the port of loading, which required precise coordination with road authorities and loadport management.

Permits and protocols

During the entire planning period, all necessary permit applications and road protocols were obtained and a thorough logistics plan was shared to successfully keep all involved parties on the same wavelength. Arranging the permit applications for this exceptional load transport was a complex project in itself – on top of the engineering studies, calculations and, of course, the transportations themselves.

Equipment

With, amongst others, 140 hydraulic axle lines, a girder bridge configuration, 20 SPMT axle lines, a 1,000 Mton capacity gantry crane, and +70 trailers being utilized throughout the project period, it was satisfying to see that all requirements were met (and all obstacles were overcome) to satisfaction, not in the least because of the professional collaboration between our team, our subcontractors and other stakeholders.

After safely arriving to port of loading and handling continuous vessel loading operations for four days , all cargoes were smoothly delivered to Gydnia, Poland. A big thanks to all parties involved!

COLI’s Eisbeinessen – a bit of business, a lot of fun!

As always at the beginning of November, we celebrated our annual Eisbeinessen. It was a real pleasure to receive our international clients, partners and colleagues in a cosy restaurant near our Hamburg HQ.

Eisbein, started in the 1940’s by the VHBS – Hamburg and Bremen Shipbrokers Association, is a cherished tradition within the German maritime world, offering a unique occasion to strengthen bonds with clients and partners in an informal and enjoyable setting. And this was certainly the case at the COLI dinner party! 😊
Thanks to all attendees; we appreciate it that you all made your way to Hamburg!

It was great to see you all and to once more realise that strong teamwork and personal relations is what makes our business ‘work’ – and nice to work in.
Here’s to another year of collaboration, logistic adventures and creating ‘Solutions beyond the ordinary’!

Busy summer for CPC Istanbul

From Oil & Gas to Power and from production plants to mining industry equipment, CPC
Istanbul have accomplished outbound shipments from Türkiye to the Americas, Canada,
Europe and the Red Sea region throughout the summer of 2024. COLI’s Istanbul Team
executed 8 separate industrial projects. From onshore transport services, to seagoing
breakbulk projects, CPC Istanbul organized and supervised the full logistical scope
including, but not limited to, pre-carriage, port handling, chartering of multipurpose
vessels, gearless vessels, engineering and lifting activities in close cooperation with their
1 st class partners.

Can Yilbasi, Business Development Manager at CPC Coli Project Cargo: “After having an intense
first two quarters, our industrial project cargo shipments were underway throughout the entire
2024 summer. We are proud to have executed countless time-constrained shipments to different
continents that required tailor-made solutions and a lot of attention to detail. The cargoes
measured up to 35 metres in length and varied from 20 to 200 mtons in weight. We thank our
clients – from numerous origins and various industries – and our team of experts is ready to
embrace new challenges in the remainder of 2024, some of which are already underway.”

Coli Project Cargo has been hired to transport a Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant

COLI Group carrier CPC Coli Project Cargo has been hired to transport a Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant for the Mari CCGT Project. The Mari CCGT project is the first thermal independent power plant in Cyprus and is operated by Cyfield Group. The construction of this plant is critical to the national infrastructure, enabling them to meet current and future electricity demand while also reducing the carbon footprint of Cyprus.

The cargo, which is currently being transported from China, consists of 7532 CBM of power plant equipment, including pieces up to 300 metric tons.

CPC handled this project together with their Chinese partner, @CSL Shipping (Shanghai), who chartered breakbulk vessel KS Aim to load the cargo in China.

Thanks to Cyfield and well done to our colleagues at CPC and CSL!

COLI Logistics faced the challenge of transporting 4 main shafts, weighing over 33 tonnes each.

The cargo originated in Houston and was shipped through COLI’s US partner DRAFT CARGOWAYS INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED to Bremerhaven, Germany before needing to be transported to Esbjerg, Denmark. This is where COLI Logistics stepped in along with Stange Transport GmbH, known for their specialist trucks that can haul almost anything, no matter how big or unique.

Because of the size and weight of these shafts, they needed to be trucked not just with a special permit, but also an escort. And let’s not forget the challenge of crossing borders, which meant using customs-bonded trucking.

However, that wasn’t the most difficult part of the transport. The center of gravity is primarily at one side of each shaft. This meant having to load the truck strategically to handle this heavy cargo, not just due to size, but also as to how the weight should be managed in terms of point load.

The trucks were loaded in Bremerhaven from the transport vessel, a T1 customs document was acquired (and closed upon arrival at Padborg, Denmark) and safely and timely delivered to their destination in Esbjerg.
